Your VS-NfD-tested second factor
in the public environment.
Commercial mobile devices do not have a trustworthy data storage device that can be used. For example, the BSI writes in the brochure “Mobile devices and mobile applications” that the internal device memory can usually be read out.
This represents a considerable security risk, especially in the regulatory environment where sensitive data is an everyday occurrence. For example, the use of smart cards on mobile devices with AirID is a way of keeping sensitive key material separate from the device and using an AES 256 encrypted Bluetooth connection to make this data available to devices without smart card slots such as smartphones, tablets and modern notebooks. By using it with a suitable application like SecurePIM, AirID is even VS-NfD approved. This means that the use of AirID is also approved by the BSI for use in the public safety environment up to classification VS-NfD.
At the current time (August 2019) the BSI approval of AirID 2 Government & AirID 2 Mini Government for the VS-NfD use (with SecurePIM) in the official area is still pending. The audit is expected to be completed within the next few months.

SecurePIM Government enables government employees to use a smartphone or tablet for work and offers all important business functions such as calendar, contacts, access to documents and intranet as well as a secure camera, a protected photo album and more. This allows government employees to work in a highly secure yet flexible manner. Anytime. From anywhere.
The AirID Government has a special firmware for government agencies. This was tested and approved by the BSI as part of the system solution with SecurePIM VS-NfD. The familiar ease of use and compatibility remain fully intact.
To achieve the highest transmission security for your data, AirID secures the data transfer via the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection using AES 256 encryption and can therefore be used to secure mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets with the iOS operating system in authorities with VS-NfD requirements.
